My Thoughts On Politics

I am personally conservative

Most people would consider me to be conservative. I don't drink, I don't smoke, Aspirin is the strongest drug I use and I can only remember voting for one Democrat in a local race in my whole life. I think Ronald Reagan was the best president in this century and Lyndon Johnson was the worst - quite likely the worst of all time!

but I am not a Republican!

Now you would probably think someone as conservative as I claim to be would be a Republican, but you would be wrong. I was a Republican. I donated money to their candidates and I believed they could fix our problems but over the years I have become disenchanted with them. The Republicans talk a good plan but they don't have a clue how to produce results.

Once in office, the Republicans don't deliver on their promises. They don't cut spending. They don't deliver on their promises to cut the size of government. They don't deliver on their promises to get the government out of our lives. They can't deliver because they are using the wrong tool to do the job!

I have no use for the Reform Party either.

The so called Reform Party, like the other two Parties suffer from the delusion that the government would work if only the right people were in control. The problem is that government solutions don't work! They never have worked and they never will. Any thing that government gets into in a big way is guaranteed to become a major problem in a few years.

In 1992 the leader of the Reform Party was talking about popping open the hood and tuning up the engine. The problem isn't the government's engine. The problem is the trailer with eight flat tires hitched to the back bumper. The only thing we really need to get going is to just cut off the dead weight.

Then what am I?

I believe that government solutions haven't work, that government solutions don't work now and that government solutions never will work in the future. I believe that government programs are the cause of our worst social and economic problems. That makes me a Libertarian.

Everything that the federal government gets in control of becomes a major problem a few years later. Government doesn't work! The other three parties, the Republicans, the Democrats and the so called Reform Party, all believe that government can work if we only put them in charge. They don't get it. The truth is that the people in charge won't matter if those people think that more government is the solution, Why? Because Government Doesn't Work.

If you don't believe me, there are many laws that created much bigger problems than they were designed to cure. To see the classic example, just answer these two questions. When was the last time beer distributors shot it out in the streets to control their territories and when did all the shooting end? The last time I have heard of was in the time between the 18th amendment which made alcohol illegal and when 21st amendment which got government out of the way again. GOVERNMENT SOLUTIONS DON'T WORK!

You could be a Libertarian

Libertarians believe that each individual is best able to decide how he or she should be governed. For example, if you think you can spend the money you earn better than a government bureaucrat, then you could be a Libertarian. If you think you can decide how to educate your children better than a government bureaucrat, then you could be a Libertarian. If you think you can run your life better than a government bureaucrat, then you should be a Libertarian.

If you think you might be a Libertarian, I have a link to a ten question quiz designed to tell if you would be happy with the Libertarian Party. It measures how much of a self-governor you are in economic matters and in personal matters. It will tell if you have a Libertarian attitude. (If you are not Libertarian material, it will tell that too.)

Why do I think Libertarians are different?

The Libertarian Party is the only party that believes in this most fundamental truth: GOVERNMENT DOESN'T WORK! In 1996, the Libertarian candidate for President, Harry Brown, was the only candidate who qualified for FEC matching funds but refused to take the money because he didn't believe in welfare for politicians!

Harry Brown said it best at the Libertarian convention, "If I won't take the thirty pieces of silver now, what makes you think I will take it later?" If you think my claims for Libertarians are too good to be true, you need to check out some of these links to their web sites.
