Maingi Little Lambs is Moving!
Maingi Little Lambs will be moving sometime next year.  An 8 acre property has been leased with option to buy.  At the present time, there is a 5 room building on the property that needs to be refurbished.  A work team will be traveling to Kenya to assist with that project.  The building needs a new roof, some cement work done, the ceiling repaired, painting, windows, & more.

Several ladies of the community, led by one of the National Board named Rachel, have gathered together and prepared the land.  They have planted several varieties of vegetables for this location to use for food.  They have room for a couple of cows for milk and several chickens for eggs and meat.  If you would like to assist with this project, you may send your tax deductible donation made out to AIM to the following address:

                      Africa Inland Mission
                      P.O. Box 178
                      Pearl River, NY 10965

Please do not put any notation on the memo line of the check.  Attach a note stating this money is for the Kiambogo building project,  Little Lambs, account 000351.  Learn more about Maingi Little Lambs.

Monthly Cost
The monthly cost to support one of The Shepherd’s Little Lambs Daycare Centers is $1500 per month or $30 per child per month. Monthly expenditures included in this figure include food for meals and snacks, honorariums for the directors and teachers working with the center. Other expenses include provisions of school uniforms, shoes, jackets, and basic school supplies. Assistance with basic medical care costs is also built into this amount. Special projects requiring additional fund raising include buying blankets, foam mattresses, yarn for sweaters, Bible story books, and NIV Bibles for school aged children. Other projects will be the purchasing of school furnishings such as desks for teachers and helpers, project tables, benches, bookshelves, and simple play equipment.

If you would like to help us out in any way, please contact us.

Provisions
August 2004 has ushered in the conditions of drought again as the rains failed to produce enough moisture to bring the harvest to fruition. Due to this increasing plight, food stocks are now at a premium and prices have skyrocketed. In light of this, we are presently spending $2,000.00 a month to cover our basic expenditures at each center. With a generous donation from a supporting church, God enabled us to purchase a used 4 x 4 for the use by the nationals for Little Lambs’ needs exclusively.

Other operating expenses include our legal registration in Kenya as a Non Government Organization (NGO) to be eventually sustained by the local communities in God’s time.

We also are endeavoring to provide more educational opportunities for our 25 staff members to be gradually upgraded and recognized as certified pre-school teachers and community workers.

Our local Kijabe Medical Center is providing antiviral drugs to those suffering from AIDS. Our Little Lambs workers around Kijabe have been or will be trained to assist the hospital in monitoring the medications taken by AIDS sufferers in our areas. Funds have been made available to the hospital by President Bush's USAID grant issued to faith-based organizations that are providing a holistic approach to the care of victims of the AIDS crisis in Africa. A more concise budget is available upon request to concerned partners in this vital ministry.

Curently there are 5 centers with approximately 50 children each and a total of 25 workers. We have an executive committee which meets weekly for prayers, Bible study and work related issues. Once a month, the center supervisors meet with our committee to report their progress, praises and prayer requests. These are very productive times for receiving the accounting of expenditures, needs, fellowship and encouragement.

The Shepherd’s Little Lambs·Africa is presently monitored by two AIM missionaries in agreement with local authorities and approved by the African Inland Church. It is our hope and prayer that within two to three years this will be a completely indigenous model for other areas to adopt and adapt to stop the rapidly increasing scourge of AIDS that is ravaging the continent of Africa in which Kenya is a part. We are constantly being requested by other nationals to
start in other areas.  We have several individuals from all around Kenya who are wanting our assistance, but we are waiting for God’s provision and His direction.

Projects

a) provision of blankets for each child and their siblings as able; also assisting care givers;
b) purchase of mattresses as most sleep on cold, mud floors;
c) yarn for sweaters—trying to have church ladies knit sweaters—still in
progress;
d) purchase and distribution of used jackets;
e) provision for basic school materials for pupils and classroom, teaching aids, etc.
f) desks, tables, benches, kitchen cooking utensils, bookshelves;
g) boots, shoes and socks, underwear, used clothing for children.

It is best for us to receive funds towards the necessary items rather than receiving such articles due to high customs placed upon reception of goods. In time, we hope to receive “duty/customs free” status.

Present Needs beyond centers:

1) Office fully equipped to keep records, etc. for ministry;
2) Funds and helpers to repair Green Pastures—some work teams are considering us for a summer project ’05;
3) Maintenance and upkeep of vehicle(s). The Barnetts use a Land Rover for ministry too;
4) Solid commitments for long term support of each center—nationally and internationally.

Give the LOVE that leads the way,
The FAITH that nothing can dismay,
The HOPE no disappointments tire,
The PASSION that will burn like fire,and
Let me not sink to be a clod,
Make me Thy fuel, O flame of God.
Amy Carmichael
(This is my personal prayer—E.B.)
